Description
Artist-Curator-Leader is an artist advocacy project that seeks to nurture increased artist leadership and artist representation in UK dance. The project aspires towards a vibrant and thriving UK dance sector where artists’ voices join with those from venues, dance organisations, funding bodies and arts institutions to achieve strategic, representative and equitable sector development. It focuses on two keys areas: artist leadership and representation in areas of apparent conflict of interest and strategies for joint lobbying and advocacy.
Artist-Curator-Leader was initiated by choreographer Joe Moran through Dance Art Foundation in collaboration with independent choreographers and academics Dr Nicola Conibere and Dr Efrosini Protopapa and with project partners The Place (Amy Bell), South East Dance (Lou Rogers) and Yorkshire Dance (Tanya Steinhauser). The project was funded by Surf The Wave, Artists Council England, South East Dance, Dance4 and Yorkshire Dance with additional support from Chisenhale Dance Space and Sadler’s Wells.
