Barnes Children's Literature Festival

Activity: Public engagement and outreachPerformance Arts/Exhibitions/Festival outside Roehampton

Description

As academic advisor, I recruit specialist MA Children's Literature students to work at the festival. Students pass on expertise about children's literature to all those attending the festival, including: general public (adults and children); authors, publishers, teachers, librarians, heritage workers. This works two ways, in that MA CHL students gain insights provided into running creative events, publishing, bookselling and creative process/authorship.

Barnes Children's Literature Festival says:
The Festival is presented in partnership with the University and we love, love, love Roehampton students!

Roehampton students have been involved from the very first festival back in 2015 and, as we always say, we couldn’t do it without them! Many are still with us, even though they’ve finished their degrees and are pursuing careers in literature, publishing and the arts.

Our student volunteers help us in all sorts of ways from covering events for our website and social media channels, chaperoning authors, setting up and managing venues, and customer care, things like checking tickets and helping our families find a seat.
