    Description

Lecture on 'Figuring out Christian Mission in Societies'. Abstract: This second lecture in the five-part CCCW Silver Jubilee Lectures series 2021 is about figuring out Christian mission in society in terms of public engagement. As we come to terms with the pandemic, its aftermath, and the old pandemic of racial and social injustice disclosed in the murder of George Floyd, a new moral order is emerging. The lecture explores what this might look like for Christian communities and followers of Jesus Christ. It asks questions about the role of public theology and explore promising practices that embody solidarity, community, and human flourishing. It argues for a reimagining of Christian engagement with contemporary social, political, and environmental issues that decentre solipsism and embody a dialectic of hope rooted in the Incarnation.
