Description

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death globally, claiming 17.9 million lives each year. A major risk factor for the condition is elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), colloquially referred to as "bad" cholesterol. In light of this, researchers are constantly on the lookout for novel and cost-effective treatments to minimise heart disease risk factors, with probiotics emerging as a promising candidate. Dr Adele Costabile will explore the link between our microbiome and cholesterol levels, ultimately seeking to answer the question: Can probiotics reduce "bad cholesterol" via changes in the microbiome?
