This is an invited paper presentation to the Asian Cultural Mobilities: Transitions, Encounters and Heritage Interdisciplinary Research Workshop at University of Sheffield, May 2023, funded by the British Academy. My presentation draws on my academic journey working in the UK HE institute alongside existing scholarship in the area of cultural/academic mobilities aiming to explore the complex entanglements between the Chinese cultural heritage/political landscape and the Western neoliberal regime.
