Description

Locals, nomads and strangers: reflections on the body in socially engaged landscape art

Drawing on auto-biographical reflections as a nomadic artist having grown up in Germany and lived across Europe, witnessing major geo-political events such as the re-unification of Germany and Brexit, Heike Salzer considers themes of belonging, identity and place attachment. Discussing examples from dance, music and visual arts, this presentation discovers how artists reflect on their positioning in the world, offering their works as vessels for poetic activism, and canvases to reveal the overseen, the unseen, and the in-between.
