Prof Hoskins spoke at the opening of the APPG Women in Parliament International Women’s Day event, Inspiring Future Leaders – Connecting Young Women with Women Political Leaders in the UK and Globally, which brought young women including some of our G-EPIC students into Parliament to engage directly with women MPs, Peers and international women’s rights activists through small-group discussions and a networking reception. Delivered in partnership with Centenary Action, CARE International UK and the University of Roehampton, the event aimed to address women’s underrepresentation in political decision-making and strengthen young women’s political confidence.

Description

Professor Hoskins presented the UKRI/EU-funded G-EPIC research project, highlighting evidence on the gender political confidence gap and how we need to address the education of girls to focus on increasing their confidence in having their voice heard through inclusive classroom methods. The event was led by MPs Mims Davies MP for East Grinstead, Uckfield and villages and Dawn Butler MP for Brent East who both Co-Chair of the APPG Women in Parliament.
Helen Pankhurst also provided inspirational words about tackling the gender gap in political representation. Putney and Roehampton MP Fleur Anderson was part of the community of political leaders who spoke with and encouraged our G-EPIC students towards future political leadership.
