  • Alison Lamont (Speaker)

Activity: Talk or presentation for an academic audienceOral presentation for an academic audience

    Description

This is a presentation given to an audience of mostly final-year multinational PhD students as part of the final workshop of the University of Duisburg Essen's German Science Foundation-funded "Graduate Research College," on Risk and East Asia.

In this talk I will present my experience of the first year of employment in a UK university after finishing my PhD. I will cover the developments in my research and the problems, as well as the excitements, I have faced looking at the world with the thesis behind me. I will cover: winning a book contract, submitting my first article, the joys and perils of teaching, how to get into prison, and getting distracted by new research areas. I will also give a sketch of the UK university environment.
