Description
Coordinated the organisation of four week-long theme-centred event series by LSC, PSY and Whitelands College, combining science outreach for the general public with engagement of UR students. Involved regular advance planning meetings with staff and students from the participating Depts and College, caterers and central University functions (Comms), as well as small budget planning, managing the running of events during the week, and contributing to several of the events as a speaker/presenter/demonstrator.The events ran in Spring Semester, separate from the national Science Week. Formats included:
-- 1 public evening lecture each year, with internationally recognised speakers. Attendance varied and, for the more prominent guest speakers (Ben Goldacre, Giles Yeo), approached 300.
-- Regular LSC and PSY RC seminar series opened to the public, with selection of widely accessible topics and, in some cases, external speakers by RC seminar organisers. Attendance varied but was often substantially increased (doubled?) over normal seminar attendance.
-- Other event components included discussion evenings, science demonstration showcases, lab tours, and poster sessions (widely varying attendance).
