From November 2010 to November 2019 I was a member of the HE committee of NAWE, the UK Creative Writing subject association. In that role I contributed to impact in two ways:
From 2016 I represented NAWE in national consultations on Open Access monographs and developed policy recommendations which were accepted and included in UKRI's final policy report, published in August 2021. The recommendations were for exemptions for creative writing and other works published by non-academic presses, including 'crossover' scholarship written for a wider public.
In March 2017 I was invited to join a sub-committee to revise and update the organisation's research benchmark statement. Over the next year, I drafted one section and provided feedback on others. After extensive consultation, the final statement was published in March 2018, crediting me among the contributing authors.
