Biography

Previous Experience

Alexandra has been an independent filmmaker and tutor for almost 25 years. She initially worked at the Arts Council of England funding and managing the production of artists' film and video; and administering joint production schemes with BBC2 and Channel 4. Following that she graduated from the Northern School of Film and Television, specialising in sound design. She then worked for several years as a freelance sound recordist and editor on a wide range of broadcast programmes. She also directed her first film during this time, 'Ending Up Here' (2000), raising money from numerous sources and distributed worldwide by the British Council. Alexandra also set up and managed Roehampton's Doc Exchange initiative with West Focus funding, an annual series of workshops linking new filmmakers with experienced documentary makers including Kim Longinotto and Sean McAlllister.

Alexandra also set up numerous training courses at Four Corners Film Workshop; worked as a freelance contributor to 'Sight and Sound magazine'; and worked for several years as an Adviser to the National Lottery on applications for film funding.

Roles and Responsibilities

Alexandra teaches on a wide range of undergraduate courses on the BA Film, both theory and practice, with an emphasis on documentary. She also teaches on the MA Documentary Practices.
