Biography

I have worked as a primary teacher in a number of local schools, teaching in Key Stage 2, Key Stage 1 and in the Foundation Stage. I have acted as Foundation Stage Manager and Literacy Co-ordinator.

MA - Children's Literature (Roehampton University)
PGDip Social Research Methods (Roehampton University)
PhD (Roehampton University) - Nursery schools or nursery classes? An analysis of national and local policy in England 1918-1972

Research interests

History of Education, particularly early years education, policy development and local government. Children's Literature, particular plays for child performers and other resources produced for use in educational contexts.

I am a member of The History of Education Society (UK). I am Books Editor for the journal History of Education.

Teaching

I teach on the BA and MA Early Childhood Studies programmes. I am convenor for modules in Communication, Language and Literacy, Environments for Living and Learning and Leadership and Teamwork.
