Personal profile

Biography

Joining Roehampton Business School during its strategic and curricular revamp is both exciting and very rewarding. As a Senior Lecturer in Business Strategy, I do not only directly contribute to raising the university’s research profile, but also play an essential role in implementing active blended learning across modules such as Applied Corporate Strategy and Innovation Management.

Considering the demands that businesses put on graduates and the social and environmental challenges that we face, it is of utmost importance to equip our graduates with the knowledge, tools and the right attitude needed to tackle its problems. My job is to prepare our students for their future role whether as entrepreneurs, public/ private sector managers or employees. To assist them in this journey, I build upon my industry links with start-ups as well as international corporations from all around the world. These provide me with a continuous source of inspiring examples of case studies and the latest industry insights that always stimulate exciting debates in my classroom. All of the above, help me to spark student’s curiosity, encourage them to ask ‘WH questions’ while providing them with an opportunity to contribute to solving real-life business problems. Principles of systems, design and visual thinking - skills that form vital building blocks of an agile and creative life are an integral part of each of my classes.

Before joining the University of Roehampton, I worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Portsmouth, where I also completed my bursary - funded Ph.D. in Innovation Management. Besides receiving full-funding from the university, my Ph.D. research project also attracted an industrial sponsorship. Over the years, I have been actively involved in a number of KTPs and acted as a Principal Investigator on a market research project for a Swiss developer of a multi-format packaging system. To keep up to date with the latest research and industry developments, I share my most recent work and findings at annual international academic conferences and industry events. Besides my passion for teaching and research, I believe that taking time to relax only inspires my work and during my free time I dive into reading biographies, paddle-board or recharge in nature with my other half who accompanies me in country walks, mountain hiking and camping.

My research interests

Over the years, I have collaborated and published phenomenon-driven, qualitative research with world-leading academics and C-suite executives in journals such as Research Policy, Industrial Marketing Management and Journal of Business Research. Currently, my research focuses on studying the impact of the changing economic paradigm on firms and broader ecosystems. Radical changes in the way we work, produce and consume are not only impacting existing businesses, but they also give rise to the new ones. These are slowly transforming and disrupting industries and thus changing the rules of the game. Therefore, in my research, I study innovative and disruptive companies, their business models, organizational processes and strategies to better understand the impact they have on the industries.

Building upon the examples of the best practice, in collaboration with my co-authors, we aim to develop strategy and innovation tools that will serve as readily applicable step-by-step guides for the next-generation enterprises. I am currently working towards answering the following research questions: How to develop and successfully leverage ecosystem-based business model to speed up the transition to the circular economy through innovation and policy? What are the criteria for assessment of the likelihood of industry disruptiveness?
