Biography

Enrica Colusso is a documentary filmmaker particularly interested in documentary as cognitive and representational practice and in documentary film form, theory and practice.

Enrica studied Film in Rome where she started her filmmaking career. In '88 she moved to Paris to attend two documentary courses at Les Ateliers de Realisation VARAN (Jean Rouch documentary school). In '95 she graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Documentary Filmmaking at the National Film and Television School (U.K.). In 2016 she was awared a Phd in Film.

Since 1994, Enrica has devoted a few months each year teaching documentary filmmaking in England (Four Corners), Colombia (Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano, Bogota ) and Norway (Tromso¸ University, Faculty of Social Science), where between 1996 and 2003 she was Visiting Lecturer at the International Master of Philosophy in Visual Cultural Studies at Tromso University, where she was responsible for the training of the students - both theoretically and practically - as filmmakers capable of shooting their own films. Since 2003 she joined Roehampton, where she is a Reader in Film.

She has realised several award-winning documentaries including:

Home Sweet Home (90min. 2012), ABC Colombia (86min. 2007), No risk no champagne (90min. 2002) and Fine Pena Mai - Life after life (90min. 1995).

Between 2012 and 2016 she worked on Ghost Town, an interactive multimedia investigation interrogating the transformation of cityscape over time, designed to provide an innovative framework for developing new perspectives on urban experience.

She's at present developping her new documentary film, which is set in Rome.

Research interests

Research interests include documentary filmaking:
representing reality through the camera; Visual anthropology: cross-cultural communication and representation, ethno-psychiatry, North/South dynamics, participatory development, women issues, urban anthropology, Interactive storytelling.

Teaching

Dr Colusso teaches on a number of modules on the Film programme. She also supervises Phd students interested in practice-as-research.
