Personal profile

Georgia Tegou is a choreographer blurring the boundaries of movement with other visual and spatial arts more readily associated with design. Influenced by architecture, sculpture, fashion and visual arts, she uses physical motion to depict aspects of the human condition. Her performances and installations are created through collaborative processes resulting in experiences that blend contemporary dance, visual physical theatre and performance art.
Her work has been presented and supported by The Venice Biennale, Arts Council England, Onassis Stegi, Studio Wayne McGregor, Dance Umbrella, The Place Theatre, The Old Truman Brewery, Royal Academy of Music, The Whitechapel Gallery, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Art Night London & National Gallery Skopje amongst others. It has been described as “Tremendously clever & intricately simple" (Amici Dance Director) & "Admirably strong" (Sanjoy Roy). She has choreographed two official music videos for dance-pop cult-favorite Róisín Murphy, ‘Plaything’ & ‘The Rumble’ and she has directed fashion editorials.
In 2018, she was awarded a OneDanceUK Choreographers Observership and worked with Royal Opera House movement director and choreographer, Kate Flatt. In 2019, she received an Excellence in Teaching Award by the University of Roehampton and she guest lectures widely across the UK.
Georgia, is currently a Choreodrome at The Place resident artist, an artist in residence at Somerset House Exchange spaces in London and a resident artist at Studio Light Moves / Open Futures 2021 residency in Dance Limerick, Ireland.
In 2021 she is exhibiting a performative installation at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition / La Biennale di Venezia hosted by the Cyprus Pavilion and she will be choreographing a new original work for Zfin Malta, the National Dance Company of Malta premiering in February 2022.
