Biography

Lourdes is Head of Media, Culture and Language and former Director of the Centre for Language Studies. She was responsible for the introduction of Spanish at Roehampton and for the development of the Institute-wide Languages for All programme. She launched the Work Based Learning module in Modern Languages (Spanish), a final-year accredited module in which students apply their language skills by working in voluntary organisations or educational institutions. Research interests

Lourdes has an interest in the field of Lexicography, Contemporary Spain and Translation. She has edited a number of specialised bilingual dictionaries (English-Spanish) and was Editor of the Translating Today magazine aimed at professional translators. She is currently Chair of the Editorial Board of The Linguist  and member of JoSTrans (Journal of Specialist Translation) Editorial Board.  
She belongs to a number of Professional and Academic Associations, such as the Institute of Linguists and The Anglo Catalan Society. She was Chair of the Association for Contemporary Iberian Studies and editor of the Open Forum section of the International Journal for Iberian Studies (Intellect). She was also co-founder and member of the Executive Board of of ELE-UK, the Association for the Teaching of Spanish in Higher and Adult Education. Besides Translation, she has taught courses in Contemporary Spain, the Spanish Economic System, Spanish Business and Marketing.
