Personal profile
Biography
I blended academic training (MSc & PhD) with hands-on experience in health services management. I gained my PhD from the Erasmus University Rotterdam (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) in 2015 and, after a year as a researcher at the same university, I joined Tehran University of Medical Sciences as an Assistant Professor of Health Policy. Between 2022 and 2024, I worked as a Research Fellow and then a Senior Research Fellow at the London South Bank University. I joined the Roehampton Business School in March 2024. I am also currently a Lown Scholar in the Cardiovascular Health Programme at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in the United States.
I am passionate about contributing to an evidence base for strengthening health systems. I have a special interest in using health services operations management and benchmarking to improve health outcomes and users’ experience. I also have research interests in the health policy analysis of chronic conditions (hypertension, type 2 diabetes).
I have extensive experience in both developing and deploying improvement plans in various forms such as strategic plans, quality improvement initiatives, and operational management plans in healthcare organizations. I have worked within quality improvement teams in hospitals and the Research and Development units of large medical centres. Besides, I have had an advisory focus and am often involved in the design and evaluation of health services.
My research has been supported by a wide range of funders including the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme for Health, the NHS Accelerative Fund, Harvard University’s Lown Scholar Programme, and private funders. I have had a chance to write for diverse audiences including health services researchers, and operational managers, and have published multiple academic journal articles and book chapters.
I truly believe in the value of making research accessible as wide as possible and regularly take part in public engagement events and have discussed my work at conferences. I am always keen to keep learning, including currently training to develop expertise in simulation and cost-outcome relationships.
