Personal profile

Biography

I am Head of Year 3 and a Senior Lecturer on the BA Education undergraduate programme. Before coming to Roehampton, I taught in a primary school, specialising in SEN and Philosophy for Children. I have worked in a variety of schools from inner city to the leafy suburbs, from large, four class entry parallel classes to single mixed-age classes, from faith schools to secular schools.

My research crosses many areas in citizenship and social connectedness, from personal friendship to social cohesion. In recent years, I have undertaken research into the use of Patchwork Text and written on identity and belonging within the European context, both with my colleague Mary Richardson. I also write on loyalty and belonging and am very interested in the use of literature and metaphor as methods of research.
