I joined Roehampton in August 2013. Previously I was Head of the School of Classics at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David; and before that Director of the Institute of Classical Studies in the University of London, and Professor of Classics at Queen Mary, University of London. I am President of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric (2015-2017); and a Senior Research Fellow of the Institute of Classical Studies.
Classical oratory and rhetoric, in particular the speeches of the Attic Orators and Greek rhetorical theory. I am also interested in biography (I have published on Plutarch) and Latin poetry (I recently collaborated on a three-volume edition of Statius).
I am currently running a project on Greek rhetorical manuals, which I started while at the ICS. I am working on an Oxford Text of the orator Isaios and a commentary on Aeschines 3. I am co-editing the Oxford Handbook to Quintilian.
