Biography

I am a practicing poet, literary critic, and and text-based artist. In 2003 Roehampton hired me to help set up its new Creative Writing BA degree and to teach its first cohort of students. I was also responsible for designing our MA degree in 2005, and I currently supervise six PhD students. I welcome inquiries from prospective research students in my areas of expertise.

Research interests

My research interests include Contemporary Poetry and Poetics; Conceptual Writing and Text-Based Art; Hybrid Creative-Critical Writing; Canadian Literature; Comparative Religion and Literature; Psychoanalysis and Literature; John Cage.

I am a member of the department's Religion and Literature Research Group.

Research projects

I was awarded an AHRC Research Fellowship in 2012-2013 to complete a critical monograph on John Cage.

I have also co-edited two special issues of Open Letter: A Canadian Journal of Writing and Theory, and an issue of The Journal of Writing and Creative Practice.

Along with this editing work, I have organized two conferences here at Roehampton: "Shakespeare and the Contemporary Sonnet" (Co-organized with Dr. Jane Kingsley-Smith, 2012) and "Modular Form" (2014).
