- the history of crime and criminal justice in the later Middle Ages and Renaissance, currently homicide and policing, together and separately
- social history of Italy in the later Middle Ages and Renaissance
Now out: Medieval Murder A History, 1300-1500 (Routledge, 2026)
Forthcoming: A study of the late-medieval reception of Medea.
Currently working on: 'Thou shalt not kill' in late medieval theology, confessors' manuals and sermons.
Convening and editing
I am currently assisting the British Academy Hearth Tax Project in editing some 17th century hearth-tax returns for publication on Hearth Tax Digital.
