Biography

Dr Tri Nguyen joined the University of Roehampton, Faculty of Business and Law, in March 2022 as a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Accounting and Finance. At the Faculty of Business and Law, Dr Nguyen is currently the Programme Convener of the BSc Accounting. He also developed the BSc Accounting and Finance, with a focus on corproate sustainability.

Dr Nguyen completed his PhD in accounting and finance (with studentship) in 2019 at University of East London (UK). He holds a master degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, with a prestigious full scholarship from the Australian Government. He is a Fellowship of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE, by the Chartered Association of Business Schools).

Dr Nguyen’s research interests are about corporate financial reporting (accounting conservatism, earnings management, accounting comparability, financial reporting complexity, and voluntary disclosure), corporate finance (cash holdings and risk-taking behaviour), corporate governance (boards of directors and chief executive officers), climate-change finance, and economic policy uncertainty. He published his research on the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting; Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting; Journal of Applied Accounting Research; and Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting.

Dr Nguyen’s research was accepted for presentation at many prestigious conferences organised by AAA, EAA, EFMA, BAFA, and Hawaii Accounting Research Conference. His research was also featured in the Columbia Law School’s blog, which is one of the most influential blogs for practitioners.

Dr Nguyen also serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for various journals such as Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting, International Journal of Finance and Economics, Managerial Finance, and Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting.

Before joining the University of Roehampton, Dr Nguyen worked for University of Brighton, University of Ulster, University of East London (UK), and University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). He also worked as a public auditor for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (Vietnam) and a free-lance consultant for some large corporations in Vietnam. He has much experience in teaching corporate governance, auditing and assurance, and financial reporting.
