Biography
Dr Tri Nguyen joined the University of Roehampton’s Faculty of Business and Law in March 2022 as a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Accounting and Finance. He currently serves as the Programme Convener for the BSc Accounting programme and has also played a key role in developing the BSc Accounting and Finance programme, with a particular emphasis on corporate sustainability.
Dr Nguyen earned his PhD in Accounting and Finance (with studentship) from the University of East London in 2019. He also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Sydney, Australia, supported by a prestigious full scholarship from the Australian Government. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE), accredited by the Chartered Association of Business Schools.
His research interests span a wide range of areas including corporate financial reporting (e.g., accounting conservatism, earnings management, accounting comparability, financial reporting complexity, and voluntary disclosure), corporate finance (e.g., cash holdings and risk-taking behaviour), corporate governance (e.g., board structures and CEO characteristics), climate change finance, and economic policy uncertainty.
Dr Nguyen has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, and Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting. His work has been presented at prestigious conferences including those organised by the American Accounting Association (AAA), European Accounting Association (EAA), European Financial Management Association (EFMA), British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA), and the Hawaii Accounting Research Conference (HARC). His research has also been featured on the Columbia Law School Blue Sky Blog, one of the most influential platforms for practitioners and policymakers.
He currently serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Financial Reporting and Accounting and acts as an ad-hoc reviewer for several high-quality journals.
Prior to joining Roehampton, Dr Nguyen held academic positions at the University of Brighton, Ulster University, University of East London (UK), and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). He also worked as a public auditor at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (Vietnam) and served as a freelance consultant for large corporations in Vietnam. He brings extensive teaching experience in corporate governance, auditing and assurance, and financial reporting.
