Valeria is currently studying for a PhD and her research is titled: Reconceptualising professional development in early childhood education and care. Her study is concerned with a reconceptualisation of professional development for educators in Early Childhood Education and Care and aims at developing and promoting an alternative approach to professional development and learning that is situated in the Froebelian tradition. The aim of the investigation is to explore professional learning and development opportunities for Early Childhood educators considering contemporary practices in Tuscany and London.

Valeria is currently the research officer for the Early Childhood Research Centre and a Visiting Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies. She participates in modules about children's development up to the age of 7, research methods and tutoring of undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is particularly interested in the fields of professionalism in early childhood, teacher education and research methods development.
