Diverse alarums

    Project Details

    Description

Diverse Alarums aims to inquire into and intervene in discourses and representations of diversity in contemporary classical theatre. We propose to trace the early modern history of marginalised gender identities often assumed to have no history before the modern era, study casting practices and discourses on diversity in contemporary classical theatre, and stage an early modern play, John Lyly's Galatea, that privileges women, queer love and non-binary gender and therefore showcases these histories and offers a newly equable, celebratory and empowering approach to representation.
