Abstract

In this chapter Susan explores the contribution that is made to children’s development by ensuring a wide subject base within any primary curriculum, with a focus on arts in particular. It will discuss the importance of offering a well-rounded education and how this can be an influencing and motivating factor for children to learn across the curriculum. It will question why many schools are increasingly unable to provide this offer to their pupils, and will further consider the potentially serious consequences for society in the future if today’s children are, effectively, prevented from discovering their passion or talent.
