Dis-othering Monstrosity in Rhetorics of the 'Wrong Body'

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

This article challenges the idea of monstrosity as transgression and argues for a material reality of the monster. Drawing from post-structuralist feminist philosophy and utilizing the transsexual body as a conceptual reference, this article suggests that the monstrous contains a vitalism that cannot be reduced to other, and proposes a new theoretical framework for monstrosity: from conflictual sites of disadvantage and ill morality, to terrain of activism and affirmative embodiment.
