Abstract

Internationally, school counselors undertake a range of different functions. In the UK, they offer therapeutic interventions that enhance the emotional well being of pupils. In contrast, school counselors in the United States are not only expected to promote personal/social competencies, but also academic, career, and college readiness. In responding to the increased delivery of counseling services in schools it is essential that we continue to understand both how effective these services are and how they can be best delivered and developed. The papers in this special issue help to map out current knowledge in this area, and provide a platform for understanding the dynamic nature of school counseling in action.
