Abstract
Responding to themes in the editorial by Stephen Daniels, Mike Pearson and Heike Roms for Performance Research 15.4 (Fieldworks), the article considers a series of landscapes - namely ‘fields’ - as loci and medium for the expression of ideas, feelings and experiences to do with ‘the past and the future, making sense of the world and people's situation in it.’ Specifically, three fields are identified in regard to which the author reflects on memories of his father, while rehearsing an approach to writing about diverse modes of performance - from Irish road bowling, through rock and pop music, military display and generational sacrifice - gathered in the ‘singular’ field of Performance Studies, as staked out by Performance Research over 99 issues and twenty-odd years.
