Abstract

There are plenty of people talking about the positive attributes of dyslexia and other kinds of neurodiverse thinking. Plenty of people are challenging the idea that dyslexia and a writing life are mutually exclusive. In fact, several dyslexic writers, myself included, talk about dyslexia as an important influence on their writing process. For me, it caused the child-me to write obsessively, rebelliously, in notebooks, in handwriting no-one would have been able to read, just to give the lie to people who think you should write neatly and methodically on the lines. I was really pleased to be asked to write the forward / foreword to this book. The writers, voices and stories represented here are diverse and we write on a diverse range of topics: at turns angry, funny, meandering, thoughtful and direct. Read them and write your own.
