Abstract
Coeliac disease affects approximately 1% of the UK population. The condition can only be managed by consuming a strict gluten-free (GF) diet to enable intestinal villi to recover, restore absorption of nutrients and minimise risks of anaemia, osteoporosis and malignancy.1 Adherence to a GF diet is challenging and adherence varies with demographic, psychosocial, and practical factors
(inclusive of understanding food labelling, availability and cost of manufactured GF versions of wheat-based foods, membership to a coeliac society, regular dietetic follow up and access to GF foods on prescription).
