Abstract

HinterTerra captures the ephemeral of screendance in a split screen installation of moving images inviting a slowing down and attentive viewing of the manifold textures, colours and sounds of the Maltese landscape. Focusing on the details of the environment and finding trajectories of movement in objects and nature, the works transmit the many tensions between Malta as a developed, ‘progressive’ European state, and Malta as an idyllic Mediterranean island.
