Abstract

Patients who are managed on long term parenteral nutrition (PN) may be receiving inadequate amounts of vitamin D from their PN regimes due to inadequate absorption, suboptimal vitamin D dietary intake, lack of exposure to UVB light and medication influencing vitamin D metabolism. Currently there are no clear nor comprehensive guidelines for the management of vitamin D in the home parenteral nutrition (HPN) population.
