Abstract

This chapter explains the rationale for the book. Alongside recognition of the importance of identity as key foundation for children’s holistic development and wellbeing is a great need to further research children’s identities in early childhood and invite all the stakeholders such as parents, practitioners, professionals, academics, researchers and policy makers to broaden understanding, listen to children, challenge own assumptions and stereotypes, embrace and promote justice and humanity in order to support children’s wellbeing and life experiences in early childhood, a unique stage in its own right and a crucial stage as part of life course.
