Abstract
This chapter focuses on the methodological framework employed in the book project to help readers understand how young children’s identities are to be explored and researched in the book for the purpose of clarity and criticality. Underpinned by the Froebelian and Freirean lenses, the multi-disciplinary research perspective is further fused into a variety of disciplinary scholarship from history, psychology, sociology, ethnography, human ecology, participatory research, environmental education and equity-based pedagogies when appropriate. In the meantime, the authors’ academic, professional and personal experience in relation to work and family life with young children in various contexts offer live narratives. By doing so, we aim to create a fuller picture and deeper understanding of this complex area of children’s identities in early childhood, which lays the foundation of the whole book project.
