Abstract
This chapter examines the ways in which illustrations of history and drama interacted with one another in the eighteenth century, and the effects that interaction had on the shaping of historiographical, dramatic and national narratives. The chapter uses as its case study illustrations of the tenth-century Anglo-Saxon queen Elfrida, the subject of numerous histories, dramas and history paintings in the period c1750-c.1800.
