Abstract

The first UK occurrence of the bright pink poduromorph springtail Bilobella
braunerae Deharveng is reported from a garden in Shropshire. Although only
described in 1981, this distinctive species has been expanding its range in Europe,
originally described from Austria but now found in Germany, the Netherlands,
Luxembourg, France, Hungary and Italy as well as the UK. It is not obvious how it
came to be in Shropshire but should be looked out for in the UK under decaying
bark, usually in the company of another (common) springtail Neanura muscorum
(Templeton).
