    Abstract

How are we to understand the idea of a quest for God? Does it make sense in these times? And what, if anything, does it have to do with desire? I examine some different approaches to these questions - in Sartre, Nietzsche, and Levinas - and bring out the implications for an understanding of self, God, and the relation between them.
